They saw a need for a larger church, so they purchased two lots in Tennessee Acres for $1,600.00. Ground was broken on June 18 for a new church building. The name of Lankford Memorial Baptist Church was chosen. The men cut logs and had them sawed for lumber. The women prepared meals for the workers. The children raised $331.00 by selling dime books. Many members donated their paychecks. The building program began with $3,100.00. The cost of the church was $37,828.00. A mortgage burning ceremony was held in May 1978.
In June 1978 the church purchased a lot and house on Richard Street.
